Instructions

Please read this carefully to ensure that your application is properly filled, the relevant documents are correctly prepared as this would minimize delays in evaluating your application.

  1. Badly planned and poorly designed research that causes inconvenience to participants with possible risks will not produce useful or valid results and is considered to be unethical. It is the responsibility of the researcher to ensure that his / her research is of good scientific quality before making an application for ethics review.
  2. The ERC may return the application if it is flawed in research methodology and fails to demonstrate adequate scientific rigor.
  3. All applications should be sent single spaced and double sided.

DOCUMENTS TO BE SUBMITTED

Application can be submitted to the office of Registrar, FGS on any working day, and should be accompanied by following documents:

  • The complete research proposal
  • All relevant documents – in English as well as in Sinhala and Tamil where appropriate.
  • Information sheets and consent form in English as well as in Sinhala and Tamil where appropriate.
  • The letter from the relevant Board of Studies stating that the project has been evaluated and has been found to be satisfactory for the purpose of ethical clearance.
  • Guidelines shall be issued by the ERC-HSS for preparation of their applications, and how to determine whether application to the ERC-HSS is necessary. These will be available in FGS – ERC web site.
  • All applicants will incur a handling charge as decided by the Faculty Board of Graduate Studies.

All the proposals and documents must be submitted at least three weeks in advance from the scheduled date of ERC-HSS

Copies of informed consent form should be enclosed.

Incomplete applications will be rejected.


SUBMISSION PROCESS

Principal Investigator/Applicant should credit the appropriate processing fee as stipulated in the Application form to the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Faculty of Graduate Studies (A/C No……………………………………..) at People’s Bank, Gangodawila, Nugegoda.

The paying in slip should be attached to the application at the time of submission. All postgraduate student projects must obtain approval from their respective Boards of Study BEFORE submitting an application.


OPENING HOURS FOR SUBMISSION

  • ERC Office is located on 2nd floor of the FGS Building.
  • Opening hours: Monday to Friday – 9.00 a.m. – 4.00 p.m.
  • Applications and document submissions should be between 9.00am to 11.00am and 2.00pm to 4.00pm.
  • If you need to submit applications and documents outside these hours please contact the office.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE AND MEETING DATES

  • The ERC HSS/FGS sits every last Thursday of the month, except in the months of April and December.
  • Duly completed applications should be submitted on the last working date of the current month (before 12 noon), to be taken up at the next scheduled meeting.
