M.Sc. and PGD in Applied Finance are globally accepted and reputed postgraduate courses for students practicing in the corporate sector and finance related industries.These postgraduate programs are practitioner- and career-oriented degree programmes specially designed for recent graduates and professionals in the early stages of their careers in the corporate sector and finance related industries,which are conducted by the Department of Finance under the Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS).The main objective of these programs is to produce graduates with sound knowledge in applied finance. After completing these programs, the students will be able to:
- Identify, analyze, interpret and critically assess financial problems
- Analyze financial data within a constantly evolving financial environment
- Apply the techniques necessary to analyze and interpret data in financial practice
- Analyze the international context and sensitivities of financial management and financial markets
- Solve problems in corporate finance and financial markets, including those involving derivative assets and the operation of the markets in these assets
Program of the Study
The program of study includes two years and each year contains three semesters. The first year consists of nine course units including electives. Each course unit carries three or four credit hours per week and fifteen lecture sessions in a semester. Upon completion of the first year the student may obtain the PGD in Applied Finance as an exit strategy or proceed to the M.Sc. in Applied Finance degree program. The M.Sc. in Applied Finance degree program consists of six course units in the first two terms. In the third term student have the option of submitting the dissertation or studying for four course units. Those who select dissertation option should complete the dissertation within a five months period. On successful completion of both years the student is awarded M.Sc. in Applied Finance degree.

Admission Requirements
Applicants must satisfy any of the following admission requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree with a major in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Commerce or Management from a recognized university with a First Class or Second Class upper/lower division pass.
- A Bachelor’s degree in any subject area from a recognized university with three-years post qualifying experience in an executive capacity in finance sector.
- A professional qualification from a recognized institution: CFA (USA), CIMA (UK), CIB (UK), IBSL, ICASL with three- years post qualifying experience in an executive capacity.
- A graduate level qualification or its equivalent
- Any qualification equivalent to the above may be considered subject to the approval of the University Senate.
